Auriel Eurythmy Training Years Three to Five From the third year onwards it is necessary to engage in the eurythmy training on a continuous basis in order to facilitate the process of transforming the physical instrument into an instrument for eurythmy. In addition to the 4 modules in the year we also need 9 hours of instruction with a eurythmist, and 9 hours of group practice, as well as approximately 4 hours of personal study and art projects per week. This weekly schedule can be arranged in many different ways, depending on the personal schedules of the students in the group and the availability of the eurythmist who will mentor the group. For example:
9 - 17:00 (this includes half hour coffee breaks and a 1 hour lunch break) every Saturday and Sunday, plus 2 weekdays from 15:00 - 19:00. Or:
4 weekdays from 15:00 - 19:00 plus Saturday 9 - 17:00. Or:
5 weekdays from 17:00 - 21:00 plus Saturdays 9 - 12:30. etc.
In all cases the study and art assignments are done in your own time at home. Included in the art and study assignment hours are classroom observations in a Waldorf school. If you are already a teacher you are only required to observe eurythmy classes. If you have no prior teaching experience in a Waldorf school, you would also be required to observe main lessons and other subject classes.
Eurythmy students with prior teaching experience may be given permission to begin teaching some eurythmy classes (1-2 groups per week), beginning in the third year of the training.
In the fourth and fifth year of the training the weekly requirement of instructional and practice hours increases to 10.5 hours each, bringing the total to 21 hours per week. The study, art and practicum hours remain the same as in the third year. Many of our students decide to reduce their work hours at this stage, to allow for some breathing in the week. Class teachers may decide to co-teach with a colleague, giving them one day per week in the classroom to be able to dedicate more time to the eurythmy training.
All modules from the first to the fifth year will be taught by teachers from the Auriel Eurythmy faculty. The ongoing weekly training hours can be completed with a local eurythmist who participates in the modules and then acts as a mentor and instructor. These supervising eurythmist of the weekly ongoing training will be chosen by the faculty of Auriel Eurythmy. Graduation is at the end of the fifth year. International travel allowing, we will expect to perform our graduation program at the Goetheanum during the end of June meeting of all of the eurythmy trainings worldwide, as well as locally. We may decide to do one or two large group pieces for the graduation program with the Canadian and Mexican groups working together, necessitating a joined module with the Mexico City group. This may either take place in Mexico City during the fifth year of the training, or we may ask the Mexico City students to come to Toronto, depending on the size of each group. The ongoing weekly schedule will remain unchanged.
