Auriel Eurythmy is the only eurythmy training program offering modules in Canada and in Mexico. A new cycle of courses begins each year. There are now 3 groups in Canada and Mexico. We are very happy to be able to offer this training to people interested in eurythmy both for their personal or professional development, as well as for those who wish to start preparing the way to become professional eurythmists. Auriel Eurythmy is part of the Kootenay Society for Life Long Learning, which is a non-profit association based on the work of Rudolf Steiner that promotes learning for all ages and in all areas of life. The work we do at Auriel Eurythmy aims to promote the development of the art of eurythmy as a performing art, as a path of inner development, for the training of eurythmy teachers in Waldorf schools, as a healing practice and as nourishment for life.
Auriel does not have a fixed location. Courses are offered at different locations and, generally, the location of the courses depends on where the participants are from. Auriel Eurythmy was created in 2013 at the request of a very dedicated group who had been attending evening eurythmy classes for many years. Though they were committed to their profession and families, they had the desire to intensify their relationship with eurythmy. Initially Auriel offered a series of Seasonal Courses, in which only the contents of the first year of a eurythmy training was offered over a period of 2 years of intensive modules.
After much deliberations, Auriel decided to go on to the Zodiac and Planets Courses, which are the equivalent of the second year of a training in eurythmy. The content of these courses are the gestures of the Zodiac and the planets. Steiner's indications for the gestures of the planets and the constellations of the Zodiac are a fundamental part of eurythmy. The spiritual substance of these gestures feeds the eurythmist and gives substance and form to the movements. These courses also cover Apollonian forms and principles. The students intending to become pedagogical eurythmists will do supervised internships. The Zodiac and Planets Courses are a series of 4 courses that are taught over a year in intensive modules, as well as a 3 days per week ongoing program. All students intending to graduate are required to participate in the ongoing training as well as the modules.
The Elements Courses are Auriel's equivalent of the third year of full-time training. There are 4 courses during the year in which the gestures and choreography of the elements and elemental beings are covered. The movement that corresponds to the elements can give the eurythmy student the sensation of entering the being of a movement, of truly becoming one with the gesture and the form. Other materials in these courses include movements for cultural epochs and movements for colours. The Elements Courses are a series of 4 courses that are taught over a year in intensive modules, as well as a 4 days per week ongoing program. All students intending to graduate are required to participate in the ongoing training as well as the modules.
The fifth and final year of our training is called Performance Courses. Requirements for graduation include intensive work on solo forms, the submission of written assignments, and the preparation and rehearsals of one stage project for adults and one for children. There are 4 Modules in addition to the 4 days a week ongoing training. The 5th year group will perform their final program at the Eurythmy Graduation Festival held each year at the Goetheanum in Dornach, Switzerland. All students receive a Eurythmy Diploma endorsed by the Performing Arts Section at the Goetheanum.
